Race categories and age groups are provided to
promote the sport of mountain biking and attract new participants. By making
the racers' ability level the primary division, and offering as many age
categories as possible, participation in the MMBA Points Series provides for a
challenging and rewarding experience for the riders. Due to the low turn out of
female riders in recent years, the MMBA will offer open (all ages) novice,
sport and expert women race categories for the current season. The MMBA will
also offer an open (all categories) junior women race category. Due to the lack
of turn out in the Clydesdale category in 2005, this category has been
eliminated from the MMBA Points Series.
