Individual Points: Points toward the MMBA Points Series
championship will be awarded to the top 10 riders in each race category and age
group. To be eligible for championship points, a rider must complete the
specified race course. Every race will count toward the MMBA Points Series
championship in each category and age group, although only the best six (or
less) out of eight events will be applied toward overall championship points.
For example, if a rider races all eight races, the two lowest scores will be
dropped. If a rider races seven races, the lowest score will be dropped. If a
rider misses a race, the rider will not score for that event. If a rider
upgrades a category, only half of the points earned will be applied to the
category the rider upgrades to because all categories earn the same number of
points. For example, if a rider upgrades from novice to sport during the
season, only half of the points earned as a novice will be applied to the
series sport championship. If a rider moves down a category, he or she cannot
take points earned to the lower category. For example, if a rider moves down
from junior men expert to junior men sport half way during the season, none of
the points earned as a junior men expert will be applied to the series junior
men sport championship.
The rider who earns the most points in the MMBA
Point Series for his or her race category and age group will be awarded the
series title for that category and age group. To be eligible for the top-three
year-end championship award in his or her category and age group, a rider must
have completed at least four MMBA race events. In the event of a tie, the
riders will be ranked in the order of their greatest number of highest place
finishes, using as many scores as necessary to break the tie. For example, at
the end of the season two riders are tied for third place in the sport
category, ages 27-34. Comparing their scores for the season, both have posted
scores for their second place finishes, and two third-place finishes. However,
the first riders' next best placing is a fifth place, while the second rider
has a fourth place recorded. Thus, the second rider wins third place in the
sport category, ages 27-34 championship.
Team Points: Points will also be awarded
to teams. Every race will count toward the MMBA Point Series team championship
by accumulating the total points awarded to the team's: (1) best expert rider,
either male or female; (2) two best sport riders, either male or female; and
(3) two best novice riders, either male or female. One of the five riders must
be a female, otherwise the lowest score will be dropped. For team points
purposes, junior expert men will be considered expert men, junior sport men
will be considered sport men, junior novice men will be considered novice men,
and junior open women will be considered novice women. In the event of a tie,
the teams will be ranked in the order of their greatest number of highest
points earned in the MMBA race events, using as many scores as necessary to
break the tie.
Individual race results, individual and team
points, and any updates will be posted on the 2006 results page. (coming
